Stephen Mitchell
Stephen Mitchell is the founder of Nexus Advisory. With over a decade in lending and advisory, he works closely with founders and management teams to structure funding solutions that genuinely fit the business, from growth and working capital to acquisitions and complex situations where traditional lenders say no.
Before Nexus, Stephen built and exited his own ventures, including a successful gym in Surrey Hills, before going on to launch startups in bioinformatics, genetic testing and wellbeing. That experience gave him a firsthand view of how capital can be misallocated, how weak fundamentals create downstream problems, and why funding must support what customers actually want, not just what looks good on a spreadsheet.
Stephen also began his finance career within a large brokerage, where he saw how volume-driven commission structures often misalign broker and client outcomes. That insight shaped Nexus Advisory’s nimble, boutique model, designed to stay commercially sharp while putting clients first.
In addition to advising clients, Stephen has raised capital for his own property and construction developments, using non-bank and private lenders. He brings a practical, operator-led perspective to every deal, focused on speed, flexibility and outcomes, not ticking boxes.
As a Partner at Nexus Advisory, Rich is focused on helping Australian SMEs access fit for purpose capital solutions. With over a decade of experience as a founder and commercial leader across the FMCG and technology sectors, Rich brings a hands-on, operator-led perspective to the SME lending space.
Prior to joining Nexus Advisory, Rich was a co-founder of Batlow Cider, Will & Co Coffee, Capital Brewing, and Kaddy Marketplace. Earlier in his career, he spent five years in investment banking at UBS and Investec Bank, working across Equity Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisitions.
Having worn many hats as a founder, Rich enjoys working closely with SME owners and their advisors to support growth, acquisitions and transition. He is particularly focused on structuring finance to support growth, and the role well-planned capital can play in creating options and momentum for businesses.
